Bhubaneswar: The mortal remains of veteran actor Uttam Mohanty were consigned to flames at Satya Nagar crematorium in Bhubaneswar on Friday.
The 66-year-old actor had been suffering from acute liver ailments and was airlifted to Delhi from Bhubaneswar on February 8. He succumbed to his illness while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Haryana’s Gurugram at 10.45 pm on Thursday.
A large crowd of cine artists, cultural figures, fans, and members of the public gathered at Biju Patnaik International Airport to bid their final farewell to the beloved actor as his mortal remains arrived here from Delhi. They later escorted the hearse carrying the body of iconic actor to the crematorium.
His son Babushaan lit the pyre after he was accorded the guard of honour.
Earlier in the day, Chief Minister Mohan Majhi paid his last respects to the veteran actor at his residence at Jagannath Vihar here. He also expressed his condolences to his family members.
Police had made extensive arrangements to ensure a smooth funeral procession and cremation of the veteran actor in accordance with the CM’s directives.
