Veteran Actor-Writer Kader Khan No More

Mumbai: Veteran actor-writer Kader Khan, who was unwell for quite sometime, has passed away in Canada on Tuesday.

He was 81. Khan is survived by his wife Hajra, son Sarfaraz, daughter-in-law and grandchildren.

The actor’s death was confirmed by Sarfaraz to news agency PTI from Toronto.

“My dad has left us. He passed away on December 31 at 6 pm as per Canadian time due to prolonged illness. He slipped into coma in the afternoon. He was in the hospital for 16-17 weeks. The last rites will be performed here in Canada only. We have our entire family here and we live here so we are doing it,” he said.

Khan had developed breathing issues and the doctors had reportedly transferred him from a regular ventilator to a BiPAP ventilator.

As per reports, he was suffering from Progressive Supranuclear Palsy, a degenerative disease that causes loss of balance, difficulty in walking and dementia.

He was born in Kabul and made his acting debut in 1973 with Rajesh Khanna’s Daag. Since then he has acted in over 300 movies. He is also credited for writing dialogues in 250 movies.

Khan was a versatile actor and regaled his huge fan following portraying both negative characters and as a comedian effortlessly.
