Mumbai: In an extremely shocking incident, veteran actress Veena Kapoor has been murdered, allegedly by her son over a property dispute.
Following a quarrel with the 74-year-old actress, her US-based son beat her repeatedly on the head with a baseball bat in a fit of rage and killed her, before dumping the body in a river, reported ANI.
The 43-year-old Sachin Kapoor reportedly confessed to the crime during interrogation by the police.
He also confessed to have had a heated argument with his mother over a Rs 12-crore plot, which caused his anger.
Mumbai Police have arrested the son and his mother’s servant Chhotu alias Lalu Kumar Mandal (25) in connection with the murder of the veteran actress.
Veena featured in several TV shows, including soap opera ‘Bhabhi’ which ran on Star Plus from March 2002 to May 2018, and also a number of movies in character roles.
It was after the security supervisor of Kalpataru Society, where Veena resided, informed Juhu Police that the actress had gone missing on December 6 that the police got cracking.
Veena’s friend Neelu Kohli took to Instagram to share the sad news.
“Veenaji you deserved better. I am heartbroken, posting this for you. Kya bolun? Am at a total loss of words. I hope you are finally resting in peace after so many years of struggle,” Neelu wrote.
According to her post, Veena’s son dumped her body into a river near Matheran in Raigad district.
to ETimes TV and shared how she is in shock. She shared,
“There was always an issue (over property). Ever since I have known her, she was fighting this case. She used to keep praying and do puja whenever there was a hearing of her case. The house was her only aim in life. That is why I feel so bad for her. She has worked so much for this house… In the end, nobody got anything. That kid went to jail for 20 years. It’s a lifetime now,” Neelu told ETimes TV.
