Kandhamal: A dawn-to-dusk shutdown called by Vishwa Hindu Parishad
(VHP) stalled normal life in Kandhamal district on Tuesday.
The bandh is being observed to protest the decision of the district
administration to handover the Baliguda Jagannath Temple to the
endowment wing of the law department.
Shops, business establishments, educational institutions and offices
remained closed in response to the strike. Vehicles stayed off the
road as the agitators staged blockades at different junctions.
“The VHP strongly oppose such decision of the district administration.
It is against the religious sentiments of the Hindus. A memorandum in
this regard will be submitted to the Chief Minister and
Governor seeking their early intervention into the matter,” VHP
general secretary Paresh Mohapatra said.
