Cuttack: Vigilance sleuths on Saturday arrested a woman sarpanch of Koraput district for accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000.
According to a release of Vigilance Directorate, Gangadhar Saunta of Bakadaguda village under Koraput Sadar police station in Koraput district had complained that Raila Majhi, sarpanch of Mujanga panchayat under Dasmantpur block had demanded illegal gratification of Rs 20,000 to issue work order for digging a pond in his village at an estimated cost of Rs 10 lakh from MGNREGS Fund and Fourteenth Finance Commission Fund.
The Vigilance officials laid a trap and caught the sarpanch red-handed in her rented house at Bhejaput village under Sunabeda police station while accepting the money from the complainant.
The bribe money was recovered from the possession of Majhi and her rented house was being searched. Majhi was arrested and will be forwarded to the court.
Koraput Vigilance has filed a case in this connection.
