Bhubaneswar: Vigilance officials on Friday apprehended a Forester while taking Rs 10,000 as bribe in Odisha’s Puri district.
Following a complaint that Ajaya Kumar Moharana, Forester, Parikuda Section in the district was demanding bribe of Rs 10,000 to release 10 seized fishing nets, the Vigilance set a trap. The complainant had called up on toll free number of Odisha Vigilance and filed his grievance.
As per the plan, the complainant went to give the bribe and the Vigilance sleuths nabbed the Forester while accepting the money. Following the trap, simultaneous searches were going on at two locations of Moharana from DA angle.
Bhubaneswar Vigilance has registered a case under PC Amendment Act, 2018 in this connection and further investigation is in progress.
It may be noted that the Odisha Vigilance, in an ongoing awareness drive, has been sending bulk SMS messages highlighting toll free number 1064/ 0671-2305988 to the subscribers of all telecom service providers under Odisha Circle urging them to come forward with information about bribery and corruption. As a result, a large number of phone calls are received with allegations of corruption.
