Koraput: Vigilance sleuths on Tuesday arrested an assistant engineer on bribery charge in the district.
Following a complaint by a person that K Srinivas Patra, assistant engineer in the office of SDO, Electrical, TATA Power Southern Odisha Distribution Ltd (TPSODL), Jeypore was demanding Rs 20,000 to facilitate his appointment as a ladder man, the Vigilance officials laid a trap.
As per the plan, Vigilance officers of Koraput division caught Patra red-handed while he was accepting the bribe money from the complainant in his office chamber at Power House in Jeypore.
The bribe money was recovered from the possession of Patra and seized in presence of witnesses. Following this, simultaneous searches were launched on the rented residential house and office chamber of Patra at Jeypore and his house at native village Chhatrapur in Ganjam distirct.
Patra has been arrested and will be forwarded to the court. Koraput Vigilance has registered a case under Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018 and further investigation is on.
