Angul: Vigilance arrested a junior engineer working in rural works section in Angul district on the charge of acquisition of assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.
According to Vigilance Directorate, here, the Vigilance sleuths conducted simultaneous raids on the properties of Basant Kumar Bastia, Junior Engineer, Boinda Rural Works Section in Angul district on Wednesday.
The raids were conducted on Bastia’s double-storey building at Sithala village in Cuttack district, four-storey building in the same village, house of a relative in the village and office room and residential government quarters at Boinda.
Following the search and inventory, Bastia was found in possession of assets worth Rs 1,89,01,661 including the buildings, 7 plots, a four-wheeler, two two-wheelers, deposits in different banks, investment in insurance policies, gold and silver ornaments and more than Rs 1.7 lakh in cash.
As Bastia was found in possession of disproportionate assets, which he could not account for satisfactorily, he was arrested and forwarded to the Court of Special Judge, Vigilance, Cuttack. The court remanded him to judicial custody till November 18.
