Kandhamal: Vigilance has arrested a police inspector on corruption charges in Odisha’s Kandhamal district on Monay.
Based on reliable inputs, a team of Vigilance officials intercepted Dhiraj Lenka, IIC, Kotagarh police station in the district, while he was going in a four-wheeler on the main road of Balliguda in front of Jagannath temple on Sunday night.
During interception, suspected ill-gotten cash to the tune of Rs 1,45,800 was recovered from Lenka who could not account for it satisfactorily. The cash has been seized.
Following interception, Vigilance conducted simultaneous searches in his residential government quarters and his office located at Kotgarh as well as the residential quarters of his wife at Khajuriapada.
Berhampur Vigilance has registered a case under Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018 in this connection. Lenka was arrested on Monday and forwarded to the court.
