Bhubaneswar: Vigilance has arrested a sub-inspector of police for taking a bribe of Rs 8,000 in Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur district.
According to Odisha Vigilance, Bibekananda Sahu, the sub-inspector (SI) of Kujanga police station in the district, was the investigation officer (IO) of a miscellaneous case registered against a person in a family dispute. The accused had moved the court and the court had ordered the IO on May 19 to release him on bail.
But Sahu did not release him on bail despite frequent approach and demanded Rs 8,000 bribe for the same. Finding no option, the person approached Vigilance authorities, following which a team was despatched for laying a trap.
As per the plan, the complainant gave the money to the SI. Soon after receiving the bribe money in the police station, Sahu proceeded towards Jagatsinghpur. However, the vigilance team chased him and caught hold of him.
The Vigilance sleuths arrested Sahu and would forward him to court. They also started search on the places associated with the SI at three locations.
Cuttack Vigilance has registered a case under PC (Amendment) Act, 2018 in this connection.
