Jeypore: A Special Vigilance court in Odisha’s Jeypore sentenced a former junior engineer to rigorous imprisonment for 3 years in disproportionate assets case on Saturday.
Odisha Vigilance had filed the charge sheet against Saroj Kumar Panda, former junior engineer in Gunpur block of Rayagada district for possession of disproportionate assets. After hearing the case, Special Judge, Vigilance, Jeypore convicted Panda for the offence under Section 13(2) r/w 13(1)(e) PC Act, 1988.
The Special Judge sentenced him to undergo rigorous imprisonment for 3 years and imposed a fine of Rs 2 lakh. In default of payment of fine, the court ordered Panda to undergo further rigorous imprisonment for 6 months.
Odisha Vigilance will move the competent authority for dismissal of Panda from service following his conviction.
