Bhubaneswar: A Vigilance court has sentenced a former junior engineer to rigorous imprisonment for 3 years in a bribe case in Odisha’s Nayagarh district.
Vigilance sleuths had arrested Rabi Narayan Barad, former junior engineer and technical Consultant in the office of District Project Coordinator, Sarva Siksha Abhiyan, Nayagarh, in the case. The Vigilance had nabbed Barad while accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 from a complainant for processing the file and submitting utilisation certificate towards release of government funds for construction of Ragadigada Project Primary School in the district.
Later, Odisha Vigilance filed the chargesheet in the case in its Bhubaneswar court. After hearing the case, the Second Additional Special Judge, Vigilance, Bhubaneswar sentenced Barad to undergo rigorous imprisonment (RI) for 3 years and imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 for the offence under Section 13(2) r/w 13(1)(d) of PC Act, 1988. In default of payment of fine, he has to undergo further RI for 4 months, the court ruled.
The court further sentenced him to undergo RI for 1 year and imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 for the offence under Section 7 PC Act, 1988. In case of default of payment of fine, the convict has to undergo further RI for 2 months. Both the sentences will run concurrently, the court ruled.
