Berhampur: Vigilance officials on Thursday apprehended two government officials while taking bribe in Odisha’s Ganjam district.
Following a complaint that Jayant Kumar Mallick, a junior clerk and Premanjan Swain, a data entry operator in the office of Drugs Inspector, Ganjam Range-1, Berhampur were demanding Rs 25,000 as bribe from manager of a medicine store to issue an order for change of site of the shop, the Vigilance set a trap.
As per the plan, the complainant went to give the bribe to Mallick. While the junior clerk was receiving the cash from the complainant, the Vigilance sleuths caught him red-handed. They recovered the entire bribe money from the possession of Mallick.
Following the trap, simultaneous searches are going on at office room of Mallick, rest room of Swain and rented house of Mallick at 10th line of Gajapati Nagar, Berhampur from DA angle.
Berhampur Vigilance has registered a case under PC Amendment Act, 2018 in this connection. Further investigation is in progress against both the accused.
