Jajpur: Vigilance officials on Monday apprehended District Employment Officer (DEO) for taking bribe of more than Rs 12,000 in Odisha’s Jajpur district.
Following a complaint from a driver that Tapas Kumar Swain, District Employment Officer, Jajpur was demanding a bribe of Rs 12,600 through Jitendra Kumar Sethy, Junior Clerk of his office, for clearing his bill for hiring and fuel cost of the vehicle engaged for official purpose in his office, the Vigilance set a trap.
As per the plan, the complainant went to give the bribe and the Vigilance sleuths nabbed Sethy red-handed while accepting it. They recovered entire bribe amount from the possession of Sethy and seized the money.
Following the trap, the Vigilance conducted simultaneous searches on the properties of Swain at his Flat No-B-204, Kamala Vihar, Palasuni in Bhubaneswar; double storey building at K-4, 1417, Patrapada, Bhubaneswar and house at his native village at Athanga, under Niali police station in Cuttack district from disproportionate assets angle.
Cuttack Vigilance has registered a case under PC Amendment Act, 2018 in this connection and further investigation is in progress against Swain and Sethy.
