Balangir: Vigilance officials apprehended a Forester on bribe charge in Balangir district on Tuesday.
Following complaint that Harihar Swain, Forester, Sindhekela Beat under Bangomunda Forest Range was demanding Rs 1,00,300 from labourers working under different projects of Forest department, the Vigilance set a trap.
As per the plan, the labourers went to give the bribe to Swain. The Forester was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe money. The Vigilance sleuths recovered the entire amount from possession of Swain and seized it.
Following this, the Vigilance conducted raids on properties of Swain at different locations and seized Rs 17,2550 in cash.
Sambalpur Vigilance has registered a case under PC (Amendment) Act, 2018 in this connection. Further investigation is in progress.
