Puri: Odisha Vigilance apprehended a CTO and GST officer while taking a bribe of Rs 30,000 from a vehicle owner in Odisha’s Puri on Thursday.
GST penalty amounting to Rs 79,200 as per the provisions on March 19 after his vehicle was detained. But Manas Ranjan Behera, commercial tax officer and goods & services tax officer (CTO & GST), Enforcement Unit, Puri did not release his detained vehicle demanding Rs 30,000 as bribe.
Following the complaint, the vigilance officials laid a trap and nabbed Behera while accepting the bribe from the complainant in front of Zilla School in the town. The entire bribe amount was recovered from the possession of Behera and seized.
Following the trap, the Vigilance conducted simultaneous searches at three locations of Behera from DA angle.
The Vigilance has registered a case in this connection under PC (Amendment) Act, 2018 and further investigation is on against Behera.
