Bhubaneswar: Vigilance apprehended a junior engineer while taking a bribe of Rs 65,000 in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district on Monday evening.
Following a complaint by a contractor that junior engineer Ashis Kumar Ghadei in Badasahi block of the district was demanding a bribe of Rs 65,000 for facilitating release of pending bill, the Vigilance laid a trap.
As per the plan, the contractor went to give the money and the Vigilance sleuths nabbed Ghadei while accepting it red-handed. The entire bribe money was recovered from the possession of the junior engineer and seized. Following the trap, the Vigilance conducted simultaneous searches in properties of Ghadei at two locations to ascertain disproportionate assets.
Balasore Vigilance has registered a case in this connection under PC (Amendment) Act, 2018. Further investigation is in progress against Ghadei.
