Bhubaneswar: Vigilance on Friday arrested an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of police on corruption charge in the city.
The Vigilance had received a complaint that Rabi Narayan Sahoo, ASI, Mancheswar police station had demanded bribe of Rs 5,000 from the complainant (owner of an eatery) to help him get released on bail by minimising the penal sections in a case registered against the complainant under Orissa Excise Act, 2008.
Acting on the complaint, the Vigilance laid a trap and nabbed Sahoo red-handed while he was accepting the bribe from the complainant on the police station premises. The bribe money of Rs 5,000 has been recovered from Sahoo and seized.
Following the trap, the Vigilance has launched a search on the residential house of
Sahoo at Acharya Vihar in Bhubaneswar. He has been arrested and will be forwarded
to the court.
