Keonjhar: Villagers blockade National Highway (NH) 20 near Dhrupada village under Town police station in Keonjhar district on Sunday afternoon, after a truck ran over two tribal children.
While Puturi Munda (7) died on the spot, Kalia Munda (4) was rushed to Keonjhar district headquarters hospital in a critical condition. He was later shifted to Cuttack after his condition deteriorated.
The incident was took place when the children were crossing the national highway on their way back home.
Following the blockade, vehicular moment on the highway has been stalled. Keonjhar police reached the spot, on receiving information, and held discussions with the villagers, who demanded an overbridge on the highway and compensation to the bereaved family.
However, police are yet to arrest the driver of the vehicle. “We are discussing the matter with people and trying to solve the problem,” said SDPO (Keonjhar) Sreeharsha Mishra.
