Kendrapada: The villagers of Manapada in the district kept the bodies of a woman and her daughter, not allowing the cremation, for four days as the police did not arrest the accused of their alleged murder.
As per reports, the woman identified as Pramila Nath, wife of Patitapaban Nath of Manapada under Rajnagar police station went missing on September 19. Her daughter Satyapriya Nath had filed the missing case at the police station.
Next day, Pramila’s body was found near Hansua a river and that of her daughter in a village pond. The autopsy report of deceased daughter revealed that she was eight-month pregnant.
After the police handed over the bodies after the post-mortem, the villagers kept those in front of Patitapaban’s house alleging murder of the duo and arrest of the culprit.
On being informed, when the tehsildar, IIC and BDO visited the village on Wednesday, they were gheraoed by the villagers demanding arrest of the persons involved in the double murder case.
However, the villagers called off the protest and allowed the bodies to be taken for cremation after the officials assured the villagers of arresting the culprits within 24 hours. The local administration also agreed to provide Rs 10,000 ex gratia to the kin of the deceased persons and bear the expenses for cremation.
