Bhadrak: The family of a COVID-19 woman patient along with the locals of a village in the district staged a road blockade demanding her admission into a hospital for several hours on Tuesday.
According to reports, the woman belonging to Nandapatana village under Basudevpur block was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Cuttack for some ailment. But the hospital authorities discharged her after she tested positive for COVID-19.
The ambulance allegedly brought her from Cuttack and left her on the road in the village. But the villagers refused to keep her in the village fearing spread of the disease.
They staged a protest along with the patient on the road demanding her treatment in a a COVID hospital. As the vehicular traffic on both sides of the road came to a standstill, police came to the spot and tried to pacify the protestors.
Normalcy was returned after Basudevpur tehsildar Soumyashree Panigrahi sent the woman for treatment to a COVID Hospital.
