Balasore: Irate people of Chhata village under Baliapal police limits in Balasore district on Wednesday beat up three child lifters before handing them over to police.
The three attempted to kidnap a 5-month-old child of Jhuni Marandi while he was sleeping on the verandah of their house on June 13 night. When Jhuni woke up late in the night, she found her son missing and the family members along with villagers launched a frantic search for the child but in vain.
Following a complaint lodged by the family members at Singla police station, cops launched a manhunt for the kidnappers.
Meanwhile acting on a tip-off, the villagers went to Chhata village on Tuesday night and found the child in a house there. They rescued the infant, nabbed the three child lifters and severely thrashed them after tying their hands and legs with a rope.
Following information, police rushed to the village on Wednesday and rescued three child lifters. The accused were forwarded to court in the afternoon.
