Balasore: Irate people of Chhata village under Baliapal police limits in Balasore district on Wednesday beat up three child lifters before handing them over to police.
The three attempted to kidnap a 5-month-old child of Jhuni Marandi while he was sleeping on the verandah of their house on Jun
e 13 night. When Jhuni woke up late in the night, she found her son missing and the family members along with villagers launched a frantic search for the child but in vain.
Following a complaint lodged by the family members at Singla police station, cops launched a manhunt for the kidnappers.
Meanwhile acting on a tip-off, the villagers went to Chhata village on Tuesday night and found the child in a house there. They rescued the infant, nabbed the three child lifters and severely thrashed them after tying their hands and legs with a rope.
Following information, police rushed to the village on Wednesday and rescued three child lifters. The accused were forwarded to court in the afternoon.
