Aska: A youth was severely injured after he was thrashed by the irate people of Ebarida village under Kabisuryanagar police station limits in Odisha’s Ganjam on suspicion of being a thief on Saturday night.
The identity of the youth is not yet known.
Sources said there was tension in the village since last few days due to frequent theft.
The incident took place on Saturday night when the villagers caught a youth while he was moving suspiciously on the outskirts of their village.
But as the youth could not give his identity, the irate villagers tied him to a pole and severely thrashed him.
Following information, police rushed to the village and rescued the youth and admitted to the hospital.
Investigation into the incident has begun, police said.
