Burla: The COVID testing laboratory and the Microbiology department of the Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) were closed for three days, effective from Sunday after a laboratory technician tested positive for COVID-19.
Sources in the VIMSAR said that during the RT-PCR test at the COVID-19 testing centre, a laboratory technician had COVID symptoms. The test report confirmed him positive on Saturday.
Following the incident, the head of the Microbiology Department announced the closure of the COVID laboratory and the Microbiology Department till September 1.
As there will be no RT-PCR test due to the closure of the COVID laboratory for three days, the swab samples will be sent to the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack for RT-PCR test. However, the antigen test will be conducted here, said the VIMSAR authorities.
