Doctor Gifts Medicine Poor

Sambalpur: An assistant professor of medicine at VIMSAR, Burla, Dr Shankar Ramchandani, who hogged the limelight for his one-rupee-clinic, has now earned accolades for gifting life-saving drugs to poor patients.

Dr Ramchandani has been spending from his pocket to purchase drugs for Mucormycosis, also known as the blac

k fungus.

The doctor bought medicines after he came to know about the dearth of Amphotericin-B injection, which is used to treat black fungus.

Dr Ramchandani bought Posaconazole syrup and capsules, which are alternative medicines to Amphotericin-B injections, from Mumbai at a cost of Rs 50,000 to treat poor patients.

Currently, there are seven patients undergoing treatment at VIMSAR for black fungus.

“When I came to know about the scarcity of Amphotericin-B injection at VIMSAR, I tried my best to purchase the injection on my own for the poor patients. But injection is not available in the market. So, I bought Posaconazole syrup and capsules,” Dr Ramchandani was quoted as saying by The Times of India.
