Sambalpur: The MBBS exams at Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR), Burla, has been postponed. It was scheduled to begin on Saturday.
VIMSAR Dean Jayashree Dora on Friday informed that the decision to defer the exam was taken for the safety of students in view of the recent rise in COVID-19 cases in the state.
Notably, 20 doctors and several medical staff of the institute in Sambalpur district have tested positive for the virus.

The Dean and COVID Hospital Officer Jagannath Hati had also contracted the infection while more than ten patients were found positive at the healthcare facility, about five days ago.
Sambalpur has been witnessing a dip in cases after the daily tally spiralled to 610 on Monday (January 10). The district reported 529 new cases in the last 24 hours, ending at 9 am on Friday, while the number of infectees was 570, 596 and 609 on Thursday, Wednesday and Tuesday respectively.
Sambalpur currently is in the RED zone with 3940 active cases.
