VIMSAR Students Welcome Team From MKCG MCH With Stones & Fire Extinguisher: Reports

Berhampur: Nine medical students were reportedly hospitalised after a violent clash erupted between two groups during the ongoing inter-college medical festival ‘Euphoria’ at VIMSAR in Odisha’s Burla on Tuesday.

It is being alleged that students VIMSAR sprayed fire extinguishers into the bus full of students from MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur after locking it from outside. Following which, some students complained of breathing issues. A heated exchange of words ensued over the matter, which took a violent turn as VIMSAR students attacked the visitors with sticks and stones. Spectacles of some students were broken in the incident, which was also shared by some Twitter users.

The VIMSAR students, however, said that there was no issue between them and it was their way of welcoming the team from Berhampur. Some students were also quoted as saying that the clash was the fallout of objectionable comments passed by MKCG Medical College students at some girl students of VIMSAR.

Meanwhile, Burla police have registered a case into the incident on the basis of a complaint lodged by the dean of VIMSAR and started an investigation.
