Baripada: A constable of Badasahi police station in Mayurbhanj district was arrested after a video in which he was seen misbehaving with devotees in an inebriated state at Hingula Yatra wen viral.
The constable, identified as Gagan Bihari Naik, was initially suspended by SP Parmar Smit Parshottamdas.
“He was later arrested and produced in the Baridapa SDJM court, which rejected his bail pleas and remanded him to judicial custody,” said Additional SP Abhimanyu Nayak.
According to sources, the constable was posted at the religious fair site for managing the crowd. On the concluding day (February 11), he came to the site drunk and hurled abuses at the devotees. He shouted colleagues when they advised him to go home. The entire incident was captured by a devotee on his cellphone and later shared on social media.
He also defied the directive of the IIC to immediately leave the site.
Sources said that similar allegation was brought against Naik during his posting at Rairangpur.
