Mumbai: The craze for cricket in India and demand for tickets, especially for a tournament like the World Cup, are known to all.
Spare a thought for those involved with the game, for example, the cricketers themselves. Besides preparing for the high-pressure matches and meeting sky-high expectations of the fans, they also have to contend with unending requests for match tickets.
No one knows it better than Virat Kohli.
A day before the ODI World Cup kicks off at Narendra Modi Stadium at Motera, Ahmedabad, the former Team India skipper issued a ‘humble’ request to friends through social media.
“As we approach the World Cup, I would humbly like to let all my friends know to not request me for tickets all through the tournament. Enjoy from your homes please,” Kohli wrote in his Instagram story followed by a laugh emoji.
Kohli’s wife Anushka Sharma shared his post on her Instagram handle, and added: “And let me just add… please don’t request me to help if your messages go unanswered. Thank you for your understanding.”
India, among the favourites to win the tournament, begin their campaign against Australia at Chennai on October.
The marquee clash against Pakistan is scheduled for October 14 at Ahmedabad.
