Indian skipper Virat Kohli raced to his seventh Test double-century on Day 2 of the second Test against South Africa at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune on Friday.
Kohli put up a 178-run partnership with Ajinkya Rahane and then an unbeaten 107-run stand with Ravindra Jadeja to reach the milestone.
In the process, Kohli broke the record of the most number of Test double hundreds by an Indian cricketer. He surpassed Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag, who had six each to their credit.
Earlier in his innings, Kohli adopted a more attacking approach and in no time reached the 150-run mark — the ninth time he has done so whilst captaining the Indian team. In doing so, he broke the legendary Don Bradman’s record of most 150-plus scores as captain.
The Indian skipper and the Australian great were tied at eight before the Pune Test, but Kohli went past the former Australia skipper on Friday.
