Bhubaneswar: A day after India’s series defeat against South Africa, Virat Kohli on Saturday stepped down as the Test captain of the national cricket team.

Virat, who took up the job in 2014 in the middle of a high-profile series in Australia, is India’s most successful Test captain with 40 wins in 68 matches. He is also one of India’s longest-serving skippers in this format of the game.
While announcing the test squad for South Africa, the BBCI on December 8 removed Virat as the ODI captain and replaced him with Rohit Sharma.
In October last year, he had announced that he would step down from the T20 captaincy of the Indian team after the T20 World Cup in November.
