Chennai: A Chennai-based advocate has filed a petition in the Madras High Court seeking the arrest of Team India captain Virat Kohli and actress Tamannah Bhatia.
According to a report in Times Now, the petitioner wants the celebrities to be arrested for promoting gambling apps, which are claiming several lives.
Citing the case of a youngster who died by suicide after failing to repay the debts post gambling, the advocate appealed to the court to ban such apps as they are ruining lives of youngsters.
The petitioner also highlighted the rise in number of suicides in Tamil Nadu, where youngsters are taking drastic steps after losing money in online gambling.
He also compared online gambling to the Blue Whale game, which had claimed several lives after youngsters got addicted to it.
He further mentioned that promoters of the apps are ‘brainwashing’ the youngsters by signing celebrities like Kohli and Tamannah to endorse the gambling apps.
The case has been scheduled to be heard on Tuesday.
