Mumbai: Cricket superstar Virat Kohli has allegedly unfollowed popular singer Shubh on Instagram after he posted a picture on social media showing a distorted map of India.
The Canada-based Punjabi rapper’s recent Instagram story sparked massive outrage in India, and he has been accused of supporting Khalistani separatists.
Shubh was one of Kohli’s favourite singers in the not too distant past.
at one point in time and had even tweeted about his admiration for the 26-year-old.
“My favourite artist right now @shubhworldwide and my all time dancer doing what he does on this song is love. Truly mesmerised,” Kohli had posted on Instagram.
Shubh had replied: “Thank you so much bhaji.”
In April, during the IPL, a video on social media showed Kohli and his actress wife Anushka Sharma dancing to the song ‘Elevated by Shubh’ in the gym.
But obviously, the singer’s controversial post has irked the former Team India captain who registered his protest by unfollowing him.
Shubh’s post led to protests in Mumbai, where he is scheduled to perform from September 23-25.
Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), BJP’s youth wing, recently tore posters of the rapper’s upcoming concert.
“There is no space for Khalistanis who are the enemy of integrity and unity of India. We won’t let Canadian singer Shubh perform on the auspicious land of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Mumbai. If proper action is not taken, then the organisers will have to face our opposition,” ANI quoted BJYM chief Tajinder Singh Tiwana as saying.
