Geneva: Even with the improving situation in Europe, Head of the World Health Organisation (WHO) Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesu, at a press briefing on Monday warned that the coronavirus pandemic is exacerbating globally, reported The Hindu.
Tredos said, even though most countries on the continent have fewer than 1000 cases, there is a surge in cases in most of the African countries, inclusive of the new geographic areas.
He noted that three-fourth of the cases reported to the UN health agency on Sunday were from 10 countries of Latin America and South Asia.
Further he said, in nine out of the past 10 days, 1,00,000 cases have been reported and the cases reported on Sunday with a whooping figure of 1,36,000 has been the biggest number so far.
“At the same time, we’re encouraged that several countries around the world are seeing positive signs. In these countries, the biggest threat now is complacency,” said Tredos.
