According to defence sources, the vertical launch of a short-range surface-to-air missile (VL-SRSAM) was successfully test-fired from launchpad number 3 of Integrated Test Range (ITR) at Chandipur in Balasore district at 3.19 pm.
The test was conducted by Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and the Indian Navy. The DRDO scientists were reviewing the data obtained from the radar after the test.
Indigenous technology has been used in the short-range missiles. The missile test met all the necessary performance parameters, the sources said.
As many as 3100 people were shifted to temporary shelters within a distance of two and a half kilometre of the launchpad before the test. They were accommodated in cyclone shelters and temporary tents.
