Bhubaneswar: Polling for Councillors and Chairpersons for Attabira NAC in Bargarh district and Hindol in Dhenkanal is in progress on Monday amid long queues of voters at booths.
Voting, which began at 8 am, is reportedly going on smoothly without any untoward incident so far. The polling will continue till 5 pm.
In Attabira Notified Area Council (NAC), over 13,000 voters are eligible to exercise their franchise to determine the fate of 38 candidates for a total of 12 wards in Attabira NAC, sources said..
Altogether 13 booths have been set up in the 12 wards of the NAC for smooth conduct of the polling. This is the second NAC election in Attabira after it was accorded NAC status on April 3, 2012.
Similarly, as many as 9863 voters are set determine the fate of 53 candidates for 16 wards in Hindol NAC where polling is being held in 16 booths. Separate booths have been set up in three wards for women voters.
Drinking water facility has been made available at all booths. Temporary sheds have been erected at some booths also.
Police personnel in strength have been deployed at both the places to ensure smooth polling and transportation of the EVMs to the NAC office after the voting is over. The EVMs will be taken with tight security and kept inside the strong room under the close watch of the police.
The counting of the votes will be be held on April 5. Electon for the post of the vice-chairperson is scheeuled to be held on April 19.
