Bhubaneswar: Jatra shows with vulgar item dance at Khandagiri Mela in the Odisha capital has raised the hackles of social activists.
The performances were put up despite restrictions imposed on them by the authorities concerned.
Members of Kalinga Sena has raised strong objections to it and has demanded police action in this regard. General Secretary of Kalinga Sena, Bijay Raj has even threatened to hit the streets over the issue.
The President of Odisha Nari Sachetan Manch, Dolly Rath, said that the Mela is a religious gathering and such dance shows are contemptible.
“We have been raising objections against it but to no avail. If the administration is encouraging such shows then it should put ‘for adults only notice’ outside the entrance,” she said.
The actress, who faced severe criticism for her nude performance at the Mela last year and was banned from performing there along with Jatra group Sachidanadam, has questioned the administration’s slackness this year.
In February last year, the then Police Commissioner Satyajit Mohanty had said that there will be a ban on vulgar dance during the Mela from next year.
