Jajpur: Tension ran high at Mundamal village after Vyasanagar tehsildar Sapan Nanda, Revenue Inspector (RI) and some other officials were allegedly thrashed by gravel mafia and their supporters, near Jajpur road on Wednesday.
According to a police officer, Nanda had detained a vehicle for illegally transporting gravel on Tuesday night and imposed fine on the occupants. Irked over which, a group of gravel mafia and their supporters, including women thrashed the tehsildar and other officials this morning and threatened them of dire consequences if they prevent their illegal activities.
Five persons were detained in connection with the incident. They are being interrogated, the officer added.
Earlier last week, Jajpur tehsildar was also attacked by some sand mafia for opposing sand smuggling in the locality.
