Mumbai: Bollywood’s renowned music composer duo Sajid-Wajid will not be composing soulful music together anymore as brother Wajid Khan breathed his last on Monday.
As the film industry grieves the loss of a gifted musician, reports are trickling in that 42-year old Wajid was infected with COVID-19 and was on ventilator for the past four days.
Confirming the news, journalist Faridoon Shahryar tweeted, “Sad News: Noted singer Sonu Nigam just confirmed to me that music composer Wajid Khan of Sajid-Wajid passed away a short while back. He was suffering from Covid 19.”
He kicked the bucket on Monday following a cardiac arrest. He was also suffering from kidney ailments.
The musician was laid to rest at the Versova cemetery in Mumbai and the last rites were observed in the presence of his family members and close friends.
Wajid’s inconsolable brother Sajid Khan and actor Aditya Pancholi were also present at the funeral.
Music composer Salim Merchant told PTI, “He had multiple issues. He had a kidney issue and had undergone a transplant a while ago. But recently he got to know about kidney infection. He was on the ventilator for the last four days after his situation started getting worse. Kidney infection was the beginning and then he got critical.”
B-town’s biggies including Priyanka Chopra, Amitabh Bachchan, Parineeti Chopra, Akshay Kumar, Sonam Kapoor, Arjun Kapoor, Neha Dhupia and many others paid heartfelt tributes to the music director.
Singer Shankar Mahadevan tweeted, “Am just not able to come to terms with this ! Shocking ! Good bye dear brother.. love you .. till we meet on the other side ! Prayers for your peaceful journey Wajidbhai.”
