Sundargarh: A wanted criminal was injured and arrested in a police encounter in the Rukutupidhi-Chikataphandi forest road under Brahmani Taranga police limits of Rourkela on Sunday night.
The most-wanted dacoit has been identified as Anil Tirkey. He suffered bullet injuries on his leg and was admitted to IGH in Rourkela.
Acting on a tip-off about Anil’s presence in the Rukutupidhi-Chikataphandi forest road area, a police team rushed to the spot to nab him.
Seeing the police team, Anil opened fire. The police fired back, injuring his leg. The police seized a country-made gun, three rounds of bullets and a motorcycle.
Sources said 22 cases are pending against Anil at different police stations in Sundargarh district. Further investigations are on.
