Acting on a tip-off about the presence of Amit near a temple in Khetrajpur, a police team raided the area. In a bid to escape, Amit opened two rounds of fire at the police but he sustained bullet injuries on his left leg after the police retaliated.

Police later seized a pistol and a live bullet from his possession and admitted him to the district headquarters hospital.
