Kendrapara: The Kendrapara police nabbed another dreaded criminal after an encounter near Bhagabanapur under Patkura police limits late on Wednesday.
The injured criminal, identified as Pratap Sahu alias Bibhu, was rushed to the district headquarters hospital for treatment.
Acting on a tip-off about the presence of Bibhu at his native village Bhagabanpur, a joint police team comprising a special squad and Patkura police went to the area to nab him. However, on the way, the team intercepted Bibhu near Jamunabad. In an attempt to escape, Bibhu opened two rounds of fire at the police team to which the latter retaliated.
In the counter, Bibhu sustained bullet injuries on his left and right knee. He was immediately rushed to the district headquarters hospital in a critical condition.
Police seized one Mauser and two live bullets from his possession.
Police said Bibhu has more than 30 criminal cases including extortion, torching of JCB machine and opening fire at a contractor pending in different police stations in Kendrapara, and Cuttack districts.
Police also informed that Bibhu was earlier injured in an encounter. However, he again indulged in criminal activities after his recovery.
The police were on the hunt for him since last four years.
Notably, a dreaded criminal SK Lala was injured in an encounter with the police in Derabis area of the district on May 9.
