Berhampur: A wanted criminal allegedly sustained bullet injuries in a police encounter near Lanjipalli in Ganjam district on Wednesday.
Police sources said a trap was laid to nab the criminal, identified as Pintu Sahu alias Sagar, near Lanjipalli following a tip off. On spotting the police personnel, Sagar reportedly fired on them. Police retaliated and a bullet struck him in his right leg.
He was admitted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur. Police recovered a pistol, a bomb and a motorcycle from his possession. More than ten cases of murder, attempt to murder and dacoity are registered against him in different police stations of the state.
Baidyanathpur ASI Dipti Pradhan also sustained minor injuries during the operation, a police officer said.
