In self-defence, the police fired two controlled rounds, hitting Sahu in his right leg. While Sahu was shifted to Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) in Burla for treatment, three of his associates, who were travelling in the same car, were also detained. A pistol with one live round, three empty cartridges, the car, five mobile phones, and 10 cartons of Corex cough syrup were seized from them.

A case under the NDPS Act and other relevant sections of the law and further investigation is underway.
