The 70-year-old former World Cup-winning cricket captain was removed from the Prime Minister’s chair in June following a no-confidence motion. The 70-year-old Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party chief set out on a long march to Islamabad from Lahore on October 28, demanding early general elections in the country since the current Shehbaz Sharif-headed government is not an elected one.
It was when his long march was passing through Wazirabad in Punjab province on Thursday that the attacker fired at him.
Imran, who was taken to a Lahore hospital, is being treated for injuries on his legs. Doctors have said that he is otherwise fine.
