Bhubaneswar: Clear sky conditions in interior regions and moisture availability in coastal parts have been pushing mercury up in Odisha since beginning of the month.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast no large change in the conditions during the next 4-5 days, but still there is a possibility that the temperatures may dip again within seven days.
On Monday, Paralakemundi in Gajapati district was the hottest during the day at 36.6 degree Celsius, followed by Balangir (36), Jhausuguda (35.6) and Sambalpur (35.2). The twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack recorded 32.4 and 30.6 degree Celsius respectively, as against 34.9 and 33 degree Celsius the previous day when six places saw mercury soaring to 35 degree Celsius or more.
The weather agency has also warned of dense fog for three days.
Dense fog may occur at one or two places in Khurda, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Nayagarh, Angul, Dhenkanal and Ganjam districts till Tuesday morning and Bhadrak, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Jajpur, Cuttack, Khurda and Ganjam during the subsequent 24 hours. The warning then continues for Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam and Gajapati till Thursday morning.
Last week, the IMD had said that most parts of India are expected to experience above-normal temperatures and below-normal rainfall in February, following a warmer and drier January.
