Surat: Migrants heading home to be with their families during the festive season were caught in a pandemonium at Surat railway station on Saturday as they rushed to board a Bihar-bound special train.
At least one person was killed and several others sustained injuries in the stampede-like situation at the station.
According to eyewitnesses, the incident took place when hundreds of passengers made a beeline to board the Tapti Ganga Express train when it arrived at the platform.
Police said a number of passengers lost consciousness, some suffered panic attacks and dizzy fits in the maddening chaos.

One person succumbed to the stampede, while two others have been hospitalised.
Another passenger suffered cardiac arrest but was saved by a police personnel, who performed CPR on him.
“In view of the festive season, Western Railway this year are running run 46 pairs of special trains. Over 7 lakh passengers are travelling to their destination using these trains,” informed Western Railway Chief PRO Sumit Thakor,
