Bhubaneswar: The 5G network service will be available in some cities of Odisha by March 2023, Minister for Railways, Communications, Electronics & Information Technology, Ashwini Vaishnaw announced on Sunday.
The Minister said that the 5G services will cover almost 80 per cent area of the state in the second phase by end of 2023.
“In the first phase, around 200 cities including eight cities of Odisha have been listed for the 5G services by March 31, 2023. However, I will not disclose the names of the cities now,” he said.
The Minister was speaking to media persons on the sidelines of India’s First Aluminum Freight Rake inauguration at Bhubaneswar Railway Station.
It is pertinent to mention here that the top telecom companies of the country, including Vodafone Idea, Airtel, and Reliance Jio had participated in the 5G spectrum auction.
Earlier in September, Vaishnaw allayed fear of radiation and said that it would have 10 times less radiation than the norms set by the World Health Organisation (WHO).
The 5G is expected to benefit telecom consumers as it will provide service at 10 times the speed of 4G. The file which takes 56 hours to download on 2G network, two hours on 3G network, and 40 minutes on 4G network will take only 35 seconds on 5G network, according to experts.
