Patna: At least nine Kanwariyas were electrocuted on Sunday after their vehicle came in contact with a high-tension overhead wire in Bihar’s Hajipur area in Vaishali district.

Six others sustained injuries. According to reports, two of the injured are in critical condition. All of them are undergoing treatment at Sadar Hospital in Hajipur.

The pilgrims from Jethui Nizamat village were returning from Sonpur Pahleja Ghat when their vehicle hit an electric pole.
The height of their DJ vehicle was very high, said Om Prakash, Sub-divisional Police Officer (SDPO), Hajipur.
“Further investigation is underway,” he added.

Kanwariyas are devotees of Lord Shiva who carry the holy Ganga water from their native places to offer the same to the deity in the month of Shravana. It is one of the biggest religious yatras undertaken every year.
