Bhubaneswar: Russian forces trooped into Ukraine’s second-largest city – Kharkiv – on Sunday morning. Videos on social media show a number of Russian light military vehicles on the streets of the city.
The move has been confirmed by the local governor, the BBC reported.
Ministry of Internal Affairs advisor Anton Gerashchenko said that fights were underway in the city centre.
“Warning! Do not leave the shelters! The Armed Forces of Ukraine are eliminating the enemy. Civilians are asked not to go to the streets,” a post from an official government Telegram account read.

Check the videos put up by Ukraine’s Ambassador to Austria, Olexander Scherba:
Hours earlier, Russian forces had blown up a gas pipeline in Kharkiv. Following this, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s office cautioned people and asked them to protect themselves from the smoke by covering their windows with damp cloth or gauze.
The blast was so powerful that the government in Kharkiv had to clarify that “this is NOT a nuclear strike”, CNBC reported.
On Saturday, Ukraine claimed that Kyiv had managed to repel Russian attacks overnight and that the army remained in control of the capital.
